At Holy Rosary, we recognize that each human being consists of mind, body and spirit. We seek to nurture spirit in all we do. In living our faith, we learn that the presence of our loving God enhances and enriches every facet of our lives. While we create a Catholic atmosphere, we welcome children of all faiths to our community.
RELIGION AND PRAYER IN OUR SCHOOL
We teach the Catholic faith and believe that we are on a faith journey. This life journey teaches about those things that will help develop us into happy and productive human beings. Religion is not merely a subject taught but a way of living, for we are human beings who consist of mind, body, and spirit.
Students and faculty attend and participate in the weekly Mass. Students serve as readers, cantors, altar servers, and ushers. In Masses and other services directed towards the students, the homilies and explications of scripture relate to their lives and experiences. The homilies provide lessons in respect, responsibility, honesty, justice, and courtesy. Each day our students attend religion class, during which they learn the principles of our faith. Then, the curriculum of all the classes during the day reference and reinforce this spiritual message.
In addition to the weekly Masses, school prayer occurs three times daily. Each day begins with a morning prayer. These prayers consist of a scripture reading, a guided meditation, intercessions or traditional prayers. Special intentions are shared in the classroom at this time. At lunch, the seventh graders lead the school in the Angelus. At the end of the day, students also participate in traditional and scripture-based prayers. Religion classes provide opportunities for student-prepared prayer services, and in times of need, the whole student body or individual classes join to say the rosary.
We live our spirituality throughout the school year by observing Church seasons. During Advent and Lent, our students focus on spiritual preparation. Throughout the school year, students lead and participate in four devotionals: the Blessing of the Animals to celebrate the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, a Living Rosary to celebrate the Feast day of Our Mother of the Most Holy Rosary, St. Joseph’s Altar and the Benediction to celebrate Mary’s queen ship at the May Crowning.
One part of our faith exemplified by our students is the sense of service and giving back to the community. The students participate in food and clothing drives, and toy drives at Christmas time. We ask the students to participate in Operation Rice Bowl, a Lenten project to relieve world hunger. Some grade levels sing for a local nursing home and at a Senior Citizen gathering. All of the students share their talents as we welcome Veterans to Holy Rosary to honor them on Veterans Day. Grade levels make cards and rosaries to give to people in need. We ask our students to give to the Holy Rosary Community by serving at Mass and singing in the choirs. When they leave Holy Rosary School, it is very important that they have a sense of satisfaction when they give of themselves. The joy they feel in helping others will become a part of their natural life.
